I have worked with individuals, couples, and families in psychotherapy since 1984. I specialize in relationship issues with people who have sustained trauma. The after effects of trauma, either psychological or physiological, are often manifested by anxiety, fears that are often not consciously understood, feelings of panic, depression and interrelationship issues. I can help you develop effective ways of coping with trauma sustained as a child or as an adult, either psychological or physical, including trauma sustained in active military situations. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist. I am trained in EMDR and use it regularly in my work. I have a Certificate of Completion for a 29-week course in Traumatic Stress Studies given by the Trauma Center of the Justice Research Institute in Boston, MA.
I have studied many different modalities of treatment throughout my career as a therapist. I take can eclectic approach and apply whatever techniques seem most appropriate for each individual client. In working with couples, I do deep work with each partner and help each one understand the other more deeply.
For working with families, I have studied Family Systems Therapy and Attachment Theory. I have also had extensive training in working with divorcing couples and in working with blended families. I have taken multiple courses in mediation skills. This has enhanced my effectiveness in working with individuals, couples and families. It is especially helpful in teaching people how to negotiate effectively in all their relationships with partners, co-workers and in any relationship in their lives.
